Dispensational theology is a theological approach that seeks to understand the Bible based on the different eras or dispensations that it presents. This approach sees God’s interactions with humanity as taking place in different “ages,” each of which has a unique set of characteristics and purposes. Dispensationalists believe that understanding these different dispensations is key to understanding the overall message and plan of the Bible. While the origins of this approach can be traced back to the early church, dispensationalism became more prominent in the 19th and 20th centuries and now has a significant following among Christians around the world.
According to a 2010 survey by the Pew Research Center, 36% of American evangelical Christians identify with dispensationalism.is a belief system that emphasizes the importance of understanding God’s plan for the end of the world as detailed in the Bible. According to dispensationalists, history is divided into different eras or “dispensations,” and each one of these eras represents a different phase in God’s redemptive plan. In order to understand God’s plan for the end of the world, dispensationalists focus on interpreting the prophetic passages in the Bible that relate to the end times, such as the book of Revelation. They also believe in a pre-tribulation rapture, in which believers will be taken up to heaven before a period of tribulation, or chaos and suffering, occurs on earth. This belief is based on a literal interpretation of the Bible.
