Why The Virgin Mary Is Not Venerated

The Blessed Virgin Mary is one of the most prominent figures in Christian history. Many religions across the globe hold her in high esteem and have developed various ways to venerate her. However, some Christians do not share this sentiment and choose not to venerate the Virgin Mary. Veneration refers to the act of showing deep respect or honor to someone or something, in this case, The Virgin Mary. Therefore, this article aims to highlight some reasons why some Christians do not venerate the Virgin Mary in their worship practices.
According to a 2017 Pew Research Center survey, out of U.S. Christians, the highest percentage of those who do not venerate Mary are Evangelical Protestants, with 88% saying they do not consider her to be an important part of their faith. There are several reasons why some Christian denominations do not venerate the Virgin Mary. One reason is the belief that Mary was a human being, and therefore should not be worshipped or given divine titles. Additionally, some Christians argue that the emphasis on Mary takes away from the worship of Jesus Christ as the central figure in Christianity. Some also view the veneration of Mary as being too closely associated with pagan goddess worship, and therefore not in line with Christian beliefs. Finally, there are those who simply do not see the need for the veneration of Mary and view it as an unnecessary tradition.
